I have been through many journeys with my hair. I have relaxed it, braided it, straighten it, coloured it, weaved it, cut it, you name it. My hair has gone through a lot. I found that these processes started to show signs of damage to my hair. I started to see that my hair was thinning out and becoming brittle. Then I had split ends and my hair started to break. Once again, I was thinking of what to do with my hair. Sounds familiar?
I decided it was time to focus on me. My hair was my starting point. It was time to go natural! This was a real turning point for me, I was liberated and wanted a new pathway.
My sister had started wearing her hair naturally and she was reluctant to put her hair through any of the aforementioned processes. I introduced her to a friend who had Sisterlocks ®. My sister had her locs installed and I was wowed with the results. A year later, I decided to get Sisterlocks ® of my own.
Honestly, this was the best decision I have ever made.
With my new flair, I became moved by hearing of other women hair stories. This inspired me to share my hair journey from the relaxing days right up to that point of wearing my hair in its natural state. I resumed my childhood passion for hair and began working with hair again. I became interested in locs and travelled to Detroit for the Sisterlocks® training course. I met fabulous people while I was there. Two years after taking the training under the direction of
Dr. JoAnne Cornwell, I was a certified Sisterlock Consultant. I went on to study hair further and completed my hairdressing course in the UK to be able to competently work with natural hair. My movement did not stop there. I became the founder of KoutureLocs®, a mobile hairdressing service that specialises in all types of dreadlocks and natural hair. I have worked with hair ever since installing Sisterlocks® for clients in the United Kingdom and in Europe.
