Locs are the same as any other hairstyle – if you take care of them, they will last and grow healthier. Practicing the daily regime as advised by your Loctitian will help to keep your Locs in its best condition. Here are some other things you may be questioning about Locs.
- Can I Colour My Locs?
Yes you can. Your Locs can be coloured however, the colouring of Locs depends on its maturity. We do advise that you seek professional advice if you wish to colour your Locs,
- Can I play sports with my Locs?
There is no rule in sports against Locs or natural hair. Professional athletes continue to adorn Locs while doing sporting activities
- Does Dirty hair make the best condition for Locs to thrive?
No. Being unkempt and dirty will only result in hair looking lifeless, dull and unhealthy. Clean hair promotes growth. Locs look neater and grow healthier when washed regularly.
- Will my hair stagnate once I loc it?
This is not true. Locking your hair will not hinder its growth. Locked hair takes a little more time to grow since it is “tangled” or “matted” . Locs go through a process before its maturity. Your hair growth depends how quickly or slowly your hair grows.
- Are Locs unmanageable?
Locs are manageable. Once you get those Locs installed, they will take time to mature and grow. During this time, you will need to book appointments with your Loctitian for regular retightening, treatment and washing sessions. You are able to maintain your hair yourself and develop your own hair care regime if you choose not to go to a Loctitian.
- Do I need a lot of products to maintain my Locs?
No you do not but you have to make sure you properly take care of them if they are to grow healthy. You don’t have to buy every product you come across. Instead, follow your Loctitians advice on which shampoos, conditioners, and wax will work best for your hair.
- Do I have to have long hair to Loc it?
Locs can be installed on any hair type at any length. It is recommended that hair length of your natural hair is 4 inches and above. This will ultimately save on locking time and money. Hair length shorter than 4ins will require shorter maintenance schedules which are charged especially if they unravel and need to be reinstalled. Straight hair should have a longer hair length to start Locs. Your Loctitian will advise you in whether or not your hair is at the required length.
- Will I have to shave all my hair if I don’t like my Locs?
You don’t have to shave your head completely to get rid of your Locs. With time, patience, a fine tool (such as a pin) and a lot of conditioner, you can unpick your Locs. You may lose some of the length.
- Will Locs damage my hair?
This is a myth. Locs do not require any chemical processing meaning they are perfect for your scalp and hair. Regular maintenance of your Locs promotes healthy growth.
- How long will my Locs take to set in?
There are different stages which your hair has to go through after you loc it, meaning it will take time for them to set in. The duration depends on one’s particular hair type.
